Enclosed vs open carriers, insurance, RTO paperwork and how to prep your car for transport.
Open vs enclosed carriers
Open carriers are 30–40% cheaper and fine for daily-drivers over short distances. Enclosed carriers protect from dust, rain, road grit and prying eyes — essential for luxury cars, EVs and long hauls.
Prepare your car
Wash it (so you can spot new damage), photograph every panel, keep the fuel below 1/4 tank, disable the alarm and remove all valuables and toll tags.
Insurance you actually need
Standard motor insurance does NOT cover in-transit damage. Ask specifically for 'transit insurance' with the sum insured equal to your car's IDV. Get the policy copy in email.
Paperwork checklist
RC copy, driving licence, insurance certificate, PUC and — for interstate moves — an NOC from your local RTO if required. Your mover should guide you through this.
Delivery day
Inspect the car in daylight, take photos, match against your pre-transport photos, and only sign the POD once you're satisfied. Any damage claim must be raised within 24 hours.
